OBJETIVOS

– Adquirir estrategias que fomenten el aprendizaje y un clima saludable en la clase, a través de los diferentes contenidos del curso.
– Practicar la lengua inglesa con profesorado nativo a lo largo de todas las sesiones.
– Incentivar la motivación personal al principio de curso, compartiendo con otros docentes.

ABSTRACT: In this session Joann will give an insight on the approach used at her school in the bilingual classroom through examples of teaching units and will also examine the role of bilingual coordinators

BIODATA. Joann has worked in state bilingual schools for over 25 years. She has experience at both primary and secondary levels. She has participated in teacher training for Global Classrooms, a model UN project organized by the Comunidad de Madrid. She is currently the Bilingual Coordinator at IES Margarita Salas in Majadahonda.

ABSTRACT: Schools can make a difference in student performance by guiding teachers in the process of supporting students with specific educational needs. By incorporating high-quality teaching strategies into the lesson plan, educators can ensure that a majority of learners are included. This workshop will guide teachers in observing pupils, identifying areas of need and responding to them.

BIODATA. Elsa O’Brien is a young learner English teacher and Special Educational Needs Coordinator for the British Council in Madrid. She is also a teacher trainer for primary and secondary teachers in the state bilingual school system. She has a Master in English Applied Linguistics and Policy Planning and has carried out research around the topic of equality of opportunities in the bilingual classroom. Elsa writes about inclusion and language learning in Speaker’s Digest.

ABSTRACT: In this practical workshop, we will first read, analyse and rewrite poems. Then we will explore the power of writing poetry to heal and feel, then we will enter an emotional lab and will experiment with words to dissect emotions.

BIODATA. Sylvie is very passionate about literature, with a deep vocation for communication, teaching and learning. Professor of Official Language Schools (English) (BOE September 24, 2021), Head of Studies at the Official Language School of Torrejon de Ardoz (2006-present).
English Teacher of the Official Language Schools of the Community of Madrid (2004-present).
Doctor in Linguistics Applied to the Teaching of English (UAM, 2007, Extraordinary Award 2012).
Ambassador of Peace (Spain) of the Universal Circle of Ambassadors of Peace (February 2019, Geneva and Paris). Accredited by ANECA as a contracted doctoral professor (2011).
Associate Professor Autonomous University of Madrid (2008-2012).
Writer, since 2019 she is vice president of the Madrid Writers Association.

ABSTRACT: How important is it that our students feel comfortable, supported and connected? How can we create the right environment for our learners where they all have opportunities to succeed and flourish? In this session we will discuss these key questions and present some practical approaches to best support our English learners.

BIODATA. Mark is a Teacher Trainer for Cambridge University Press and Assessment. Since arriving in Spain, he has taught primary and secondary students as well as future university students on pre-sessional programs. He has also run professional development training sessions and courses with teachers from across Spain, Portugal and Western Europe as well as delivering local and international webinars. He holds a Trinity Dip Tesol and an MA in TESOL from Lancaster University.

ABSTRACT: In this session, we Will look at a variety of practical strategies to support teachers focus on their well-being.

We Will bring the PERMA model, designed by renowned psychologist, educator and author Martin Seligman, to life both inside and outside the classroom and we will look at how teachers can reconnect to their passion for teaching and increase their sense of resilience, focus their time and energy and connect to their work with optimism and assertiveness.

BIODATA. Séamus is certified Trainer in the applications of NLP in Education and other areas. He has designed and developed innovative courses in organisational and educational settings. He sees his work as accompanying others to develop their flexibility in thinking and in action so open up new possibilities for discovery, learning, creativity and changes.
